Hiroshima Castle
The grounds of the castle and the banks of the moat
are a great place to view the 350 or so cherry trees that come into bloom in early April.
Shukkeien Garden
Forget you are right in the heart of the city here at Shukkeien Garden. This is one place
were the somewhat unpredictable weather around hanami season can actually add to
the atmosphere.
On Sunday April 8th there is a chance to enjoy the blossoms while drinking Japanese Tea,
and there are sure to be some lovely kimonos on display (a tea ticket is ¥700). But if
you want to enjoy a spot of quiet reflection to which the park lends itself well, you
should probably avoid the weekend.
Admission to the park is ¥250 for adults, ¥180 for students and ¥120 for kids.
It's open 10:00 to 17:00 in March and until 18:00 from April. It is located behind the Prefectural Art Museum, 1min from Shukkeien streetcar stop on the Hakushima Line.
Peace Park
A big favorite - you'll have get here pretty early with your plastic sheet and defend it with your life be assured of a decent spot - especially now that a large area is now under construction.
A good place for those who want to just have a taste in the lunch hour or after work.
There will also be Hanami Cruises from the pier here (¥1100/¥3500 with
bento lunch - 082-240-5955)
Chuo Park
There are plenty of cherry trees in the park, but by far the best place here is the wide
strip of grass running along the Ota-gawa on the west edge of the park. This is one of
the nicest spots to hang out at on a sunny Sunday afternoon at any time of the year.
Hakushima
Along the grassy bank of the Kyobashi River running down from Kohei-bashi (between Johoku and Ushita
Astram Line Stations) behind Yasuda Gakkuen, and past Ushita O-hashi is a favorite of
locals and their families.
Mitaki Temple
Mitaki is wonderful little natural oasis close to the city center, worth visiting at any time of the year.
The blossoms on the cherry trees that are dotted around grounds, give the place a brighter, more cheery character
than in other seasons.
Mitaki Temple is 20 min walk from Mitaki Station on the JR Kabe-sen.
Hijiyama Park
Another very popular place for hanami parties. For good reason - there are some 1300
cherry trees here and great views over the city from up on the hill. Why not take in
an exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum
while you're there?
Hijiyama Park is open 08:00-23:00.
