Cafe Paco: Fair Trade Cafe

How rare it is to find such a welcoming, roomy cafe in Otemachi. Then to discover that they serve delicious, reasonably priced meals and sets. Sets will likely change each season, but at the moment, there is a pork stew with baguette, tomato, mushroom and cheese risotto, a vegan set of a Lada-chick-pea curry and rice and a soup and baguette option. (Update 4/08- they also have waffles on the menu now).
The dishes are made mostly of organic ingredients.
Most of the products they sell and most of the ingredients they use are fair trade.

Paco means "Peace" in Esperanto which is why the owner, Fuji-san chose it for their cafe.
It is a really pleasant place to spend some time. There is delicious fair trade coffee from Rowanda available for coffee sets. Lunch sets are served on handmade bamboo trays and the decor is simple and fashionable with its handmade wooden light covers and refurbished furniture.
It is a good place to find out about community support groups in Hiroshima and other peace activist groups. It is also a great way to support local and global charity and fair trade organizations. Not to mention a good, fair way for you to sell your homemade or good quality, second-hand or unwanted goods on consignment.

" Very , very good!" 5.0
Wilf Aldridge - Thu Dec 2007
During the late afternoon of Wednesday 14th November 2007 I was taken to the spacious and very comfortable Cafe Paco by my friend Yasuko, from Kure City, for coffee. It arrived served in a good sized cup on a beautiful small wood tray and was accompanied by 3 little assorted biscuits and a glass of iced water. The coffee was excellent - in fact as good, if not better, than any I had taken previously in Japan - and the biscuits were fresh and tasty. I hope to visit he Cafe again in November 2008 (which is when I am next in Japan). I will also recommend it to all the other elderly British ex-servicemen and their families who accompany me on their return to Kure City, where they had served at some time from 1946 to 1956.
