The Shack

Casual dining with a laid-back atmosphere with a "shack-like" setting. It's a spacious venue which include three distinct sections of the Shack as if it were a big house: the playroom, the inside of the house and the backyard all set up for a barbeque.

The playroom includes two dart boards and a pool table with a couch overlooking it all. The inside consists of the bar and tables around it, and the backyard is made up of four, long, wooden picnic tables.

The huge menu offers a Kemby-esque selection of American delights like tex-mex dishes and burgers with the addition of more vegetarian offers and a help yourself style salad bar.

Interested in trying a new drink? The staff recommend the "dessert cocktails" like the Baileys ice-cream or jelly cocktail.

"You'll miss it when you're gone!" 5.0

I lived in Hiroshima for one year. I hit The Shack at least once a month and sometimes more. We would always start our night there during the happy hour for drinks and dinner. They were always very cool and would rush to get us those last few drinks before h-hour ended. Now that I'm back in the states, I would do anything for another night out in Hiroshima that began at The Shack!

"Very friendly" 5.0

I'm always amazed to read the reviews of the shack that claim the staff are unfriendly. Like it or not, I don't think that is something you can accuse them of. I am not alone in thinking some of the reviews are a little dubious... I am always treated very well by the staff here and I have also seen them dealing with kids running wild making a mess, with smiles and 'kawaii's. Perhaps it just attracts some people who need to take their head out of somewhere? One problem with the shack is you do sometimes come across some pig ignorant customers. And if you don't want a drink, you can always say 'No thanks'. Personally I don't really like to have to wait around to get someone's attention for one. 5 stars (or whatever they are) for friendliness, the rest of it you can go see for yourself....I'm sure you will be welcomed :)

"Shucks!" 3.0

Shack, some love it, some hate it, but honestly it's seem better days. Seems management has taken a hands off approach to things. Service is probably my biggest quip, as it's downright hard to even get greeted at the door nowadays. You ever been to one of those McDonalds that has been forgotten by the company, left to rot, and no one seems to give a flip whether you get your meal or not. That's today Shack.

"Decent place for a late night beer" 4.0

Drinks are cheap, they have black beer on tap, and you can (almost) always find a seat. The staff is for the most part friendly, and the popcorn is good. Good place to drink, burgers are pretty good, but I would avoid the rest of the food.

The Shack is a great bar if you want a game of pool, a few beers and simple food. Its not the place to go if you want good service. Perhaps its just me, but being constantly hounded over whether I want another beer, does grate...

"inconsistent" 3.0

The Shack has changed a lot in the last couple of years. You are not always guaranteed friendly service every time you go there. Recent changes in the menu have meant some items have doubled in price. However, it is still the place to go for a good burger and a game of pool.

"The place to go when you are stuck for a place to go" 3.0
amie - Tue Jul 2006
The food here is okay, the staff is off-and-on friendly and not so friendly. It can feel like a bit of a meat market at times, but it does have that kind of familiarity, that comfort of home quality for me, like going to East Side Marios or Kelsey's(if you know those places). I go there when I can't decide or there are too many people fighting over where to go.

"I love The Shack and its Crew they made me feel right at home!" 5.0

I love this place and actually I have a funny story about me going there because of my host brother, who happens to work there, took me to eat and the food was delicious! Here is the funny part, I took a girl there that I met after 1 day of being there and she happens to work for Docomo so I got the latest, really cool cell phone for Free!!! So naturally I took her out to dinner and she loved it at The Shack too, and the night ended really great! It was Christmas Eve, and The Shack gave it an extra Kick to light off the night with her.

"It's just" 3.0

Everyone raves about this place, but it's not so good. I guess there aren't too many choices in Hiroshhh for American/Tex Mex (whatever) food, but it's not worth it. I always end up feeling a little sick after I eat there, but my friends always wanna go there. Texas and Mexico are too far away I guess.

"Fantastic" 5.0

Great place, spacious, food is good when you see little you are paying for it. Even has a couple of pool tables. Loads of girls in this bar unlike many of the other bars around there.
