Big Wave Skate Rink /50m Pool

An amazing olympic-sized pool that the city can be proud of.

Originally built for the Asian Games held here in Hiroshima in 1991, competitive and recreational swimmers can enjoy the rarely crowded 50m lanes between June and September.

Much to the chagrin of swimmers, the pool is closed in late September when preparations begin to transform it into an ice rink, for which it is used between November and April.

The skate rink is open October to April and they advertise ice-hockey classes for kids during the week as well as skating workshops and even a chance to try your hand at curling. It does get busy on the weekends, but even then, there seems to be enough ice space for everyone.

The 50 meter pool is unbelievable and virtually unused, if you like swimming, you MUST go here at least once while it is open! Bring a cap and goggles :-)

Crushed Foot (Crushfoot@brokenmetatarsil.com) - Tue Jun 2006
I went ice skating here only to be crippled by the tiny boots. Sure they were 28cm boots available but not extra wide. I took the boots back to the help desk and asked for a wider pair. The "Kind lady" took my boots off me, walked around the back of the counter (were I could still see her!!) and then came back and gave me THE SAME boots say "These are Osaka size" whatever that was supposed to mean. So I didnt get to skate and wont go back (except to swim).
