Miyajima Aquarium
The Miyajima Aquarium is closed renovation
and will reopen in August 2011
50 tanks containing over 350 species and 13,000 specimens from Japan's coastal waters and beyond. The stars of the facility are the finless porpoises (sunameri). There are 4 or 5 sea lion shows a day and a chance to interact with Humboldt Penguins.
The bilingual aquarium website is surprisingly good and has quite a lot of information and some kids activities too. Click on the "English Site" link in the top right corner.

Children (over 4) ¥310
Access
From Miyajima ferry port, it's a well sign posted 15 minute walk past the red floating torii gate and along the coast to the aquarium.
