Summer Days With Coo
The 2007 animated feature film Summmer Days With Coo (河童のクゥと夏休み) about a young boy who befriends a kappa water sprite is to be screened on the grassy riverbank known as "Motomachi POP'Lar Dori" next to Chuo Park.
Now, it would be great if you could stick your head out of your window come July 31 and decide whether to rock on down to the river with your blue sheet and the kids, but of course it isn't as easy as that.
The film will be in Japanese only, but with the "gates" opening from 6pm and the 2 hour and 20 minute film only starting at 7:50pm it's a nice opportunity to enjoy a nighttime picnic with a bunch of other people as much as a chance to watch a film.
The screening is limited to 300 people and they ask that you pre-register so things can be run smoothly on the night and also so that they can let you know if the screening will be postponed until the following day due to inclement weather.
This is a bit of a pain, but it is free and it is just the kind of thing that Hiroshima needs more of, and thus, we feel, should be supported.
You can sign up by Email by sending a message with 「河童のクゥと夏休み」上映会参加希望 as the subject to caq@zd6.so-net.ne.jp including name, postal and email addresses, number of people and telephone number.
The sign up deadline is July 17, but they'll stop registering people once the 300 people limit is reached.
