Opium

Opium has changed a lot over the years since it opened, but remains a popular place to sit and eat or drink in this glass walled bar above Namiki. Still a cool place to hang out, the staff are usually friendly and helpful and the food, although it has become more mainstream "western" than gourmet as it first was, is still not bad for a bar.

To describe Opium, I'd have to borrow from a description of FIGO to say it's "Rustic-Chic," an interesting mish mash of furniture, buffalo horns and chandeliers in a wooden interior.

The drinks menu includes a huge range of spirits including Absinthe, cocktails, beer as well as tropical juices and coffees.

I have been here on several occassions to include "In Da Dining" night. Music was great! Old School Hip Hop was in the mix!!! Drink prices were not to bad either and the food was good.

Good music and happy hours deals (drinks like cassis and grapefruit juice were 300 yen from 19:00-21:00). The drinks were good pours as well. Nice decor, but some of the chairs are looking a little worn. There was some English on the drink menu, but not on the food menu, although food items were pictured. I had fish and chips and my boyfriend had an omelet with rice and what we thought was just mushrooms, but it had pork in it. He likes pork, so it was cool, but I don't so I was glad I didn't order it. A good experience. We'll definitely be back for happy hour again sometime!

The only problem I had was the high amount of smoke. The food is very good; I HIGHLY recommend stuff off the "light" menu whose portions are larger than most meals! And there are a lot of options there, with an even wider selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at some of the lowest prices I've seen. Also, it's got a great view and is easy to find.

The drinks here are made well. Opium is a great place to go for drinks and food when you've gotten dressed up and want to look good in good-looking surroundings. AND you can people-watch Namiki from a window seat.
