Yanbo

Sasaki-san, otherwise known as Yanbo and his frindly wife run an excellent specialist running shop right in the center of town. They are great contacts if you are interested in doing some running events in or around Hiroshima. What they don't know about the local running scene isn't worth knowing.

The small store has a surprisngly large selection of running shoes as well as running clothing and accessories. If they don't have your size in the shoe you want they will happily order in the size you need - and keep doing so until you get the shoe and the fit you want.

They also organize "friendly" running events around the Ota-gawa twice a year (at New Year and in the middle of summer) which range from an easy 3k to a killer 20k loop. Those in search of a longer distance can sign up for their annual Honolulu Marathon tour in December.

It's a great feeling to buy running shoes and gear from people who are active runners themselves.

Sasaki-san was quite helpful in getting my racing forms ready and telling me about the course. Be sure to ask him about his last marathon in 2002. Coming from a running city like Austin in the US, this place felt just like home.
