J Cafe

Located on fashionable Jizo-dori in downtown Hiroshima, J Café stands out during the day but really comes to life in the evening as a popular meeting point.

Tokyo based interior designer Satoru Horie has created an inviting space where - a nice wide open space that makes good use of the natural light coming in from the giant glass doors that surround the place. There is always a different mural on the back wall, usually seasonal or topical- always worth a look. They often change the front entrance as well, but you can always find it by the mangled "J" symbol which is often misinterpreted as the @ mark.

Inventive design touches are also at work in the WC, where the mirror serves to drain runoff from the sheet metal sink to down below where a bed of pebbles awaits.

Back on the wood plank floor, staff in stylized t-shirts, deliver cocktails, drinks light lunches (curry, toasted sandwiches and nasi goren), desserts and light snacks to patrons.

There is seating for about 40 on the very comfortable, oversized red sofas as well as along the bar. The design of the café delivers the desired effect: conversation is lively and people come to meet, laugh and talk in stylish surroundings.

"Wonderful cafe" 5.0
Asami - Mon May 2008
I think it is very good as lunch is done on the weekend. A considerable guest entered, and there was a state of an empty waiting, too. The clerk's correspondence was also good. Because the dessert menu has been enhanced, too I think that it is an especially recommended shop in the woman.

"Favorite house" 4.0

I like J cafe. It is very delicious and comfortable. Lunch is cheap, never more than ¥1000. But the restaurant is small and fills with people soon.

"J-cafe" 5.0

The back wall is very wonderful and has a Mediterranean atmosphere. The Food is also delicious and the staff are also kind.

"Friends Style Central Perk!" 4.0
Jules - Mon Mar 2005
I think of this place as @Cafe and was confused by the sign! A great place to chill out on the comfy sofas. The crepes and waffles are scrumptious and I love the flavoured coffees, especially coconut. The paninis are good too! Great in Summer, Winter, day or night!

"Great for a Date" 3.0

Very nice ambience. Much style, even in the restrooms. Prices are pretty high, and what I had wasn't exactly anything to write home about. Still, has the potential to be very romantic.

"Better in the summer" 3.0
Mark E. - Sat Dec 2002
Food was good, if a bit plain. Simple menu. Visited for lunch, so it wasn't so busy, and music selection was dubious (polka compliation?!?). The glass doors at front give it a wonderful sidewalk feeling in summer, but do little to help you warm up in the winter.

"European Feeling-Lingering Comfort" 5.0
P. Joshua (josh@artorb.co.uk) - Wed Sep 2001
I have been here every day almost for the last week. I love it. The staff are always charming, and seem to get better looking everytime I go in, and not just as the night rolls on. The food is - I don't know, but the drinks seems really good. I always have the wine (which is reasonable, if small in quantity) or the beer, however my friends say the cocktails are excellent. Big red comfy sofa are perfect for prolonged lingering of eyes on barstaff, I mean fish splodge decor.
