FRF seems to have found it's home and will be held in Naeba again this year. The line up, is perhaps
not as big as last year but it is formidable. One change this year seems to be that there are more
Japanese acts and, Blankey Jet City and Thee Michelle Gun Elephant headlining on the main stage two
of the three nights.
On Day One Blankey Jet City headline the Green Stage on the first day and it'll be one of
their last gigs before they disband at the end of the year - they like to rock and the crowd will
go wild. Not quite sure how things will flow with The Chemical Brothers (who's gave us a monster of a
show last year) sandwiched between BJC and Foo Fighters though. Over on the White Stage the maddness
that is Fishbone warm up for British Indian Drum 'n' Bass Reggae Rap Rockers "Asian Dub Foundation"
Day Two promised a possible reunion between indie pop gods Morrissey and Jonny Marr,
formerly of The Smiths, but Morrissey has recently cancelled. You can check out ex-Ride frontman
Mark Lawrence's new outfit The Animal House and art rockers and inventors of "grunge", Sonic Youth
are scheduled to battle the daylight around tea time. It's a hip hop reggae feast on the White Stage
during the afternoon with Tha Blue Herb and Buddah Brand split by GetHiroshima favorite Dry and Heavy. Then Roni Size and Reprazent will show just how good Drum'n'Bass can be. Green Stage headliners Thee Michelle Gun Elephant find themselves up against rap legends Run DMC, who despite the cheesy tunes are sure to pull in a curious crowd (I'll certainly be there).
Got to admit that the line up for Day Three is looking a tad tired with the Monkey Man himself
Ian Brown, warming up for indie-rock chameleons Primal Scream. But Sunday's line up on the White Stage
has to be the most exciting of the whole weekend - especially if you're a dance head. Dance music's
man of the moment Moby, Stereolab, and Leftfield, rounded out by Japanese techno pranksters Denki
Groove mean things will flow nicely and build into mayhem reminiscent of last year's MENTAL
Underworld show.
Of course, while all this is going on there are two other stages with some interesting acts including,
Eagle-Eye Cherry, Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her, Mogwai, Gomez, Super Furry Animals, and Air.
And for those who refuse to lie down the dance tent kicks off each night at 9pm and keeps on groovin'
till dawn. With top notch DJs including Carl Craig, Luke Slater, DJ Krust, Richard James aka Aphex
Twin (that FACE!) there's plenty to keep your feet moving every night especially with the recent
addition of slots by Richard Fearless (Death in Vegas) and David Holmes.
Well I started off kind of unenthusiastic about FRF '00 but having punched all that in I'm getting
VERY excited about the whole thing - so what if I could go to Hawaii for the same price, this is going
to be AWESOME!!
